Join Our Tutoring Team

As a tutor for Learning Aid Ohio, you can do the work you love on a schedule that works for you. Our tutors are independent contractors who set their own hours and use their own materials. You must be willing to work in person and share feedback with students’ families and Learning Aid Ohio staff to ensure the student’s success. You determine your own pay rate based on your level of education and experience.

Please note that immediate family members or those in the same household as approved learners cannot apply to be tutors.

Tutor enrollment is ongoing, and we encourage you to apply at any time. Applications are reviewed in the order they are received.

Tutor FAQs

What kind of background check do you require?

If you are a resident of Ohio, you can submit either a BCI or FBI background check. Find locations that offer the type you need. We suggest sending the background check to your home address and uploading the document into ElevateDD Learner.

If submitting a BCI background check, please use code 5123 081, “Employment with DoDD, County Board of DD or contracting agency.”

If you are not a resident of Ohio, you must submit an FBI background check.

Are tutoring services conducted in person or online?

We are currently only hiring tutors who can provide in-person services.

How do tutors get paid?

Tutors are paid every two weeks by direct deposit.

What will I work on with learners in the program?

This program is designed to provide learners with supplemental learning support for goals listed on their Individual Education Plan. Prior to the provision of paid services, there is an introductory interview where you and the learner can talk through goals with participation and determine if the match is compatible on both sides.

Can I book appointments for clients?

No. Clients must book their own appointments directly through the site to pay for their services with their Learning Aid Ohio grant. It is against our policy for a tutor to schedule appointments on a learner’s behalf.

Does Learning Aid Ohio partner with any other businesses or organizations that provide additional educational services?

No. The platform is only available for individual tutors to offer one-on-one services to families.

Can I, as a tutor, offer group services?

No. Learning Aid Ohio grants are for one-on-one sessions between a tutor and an approved learner.

My experience as a tutor with Learning Aid Ohio has proven to be invaluable. It has been an "out of the box" solution to providing services to children and families that needed them. It removed so many of the barriers that lessened or even prohibited the services children needed to be successful. I am extremely thankful for the program for providing the opportunities to create meaningful and lasting connections with children, families and content in natural environments. I can also say that over the course of my time, I have learned as much or more than I have taught. That too, has been invaluable.
