Family FAQs

Who is eligible to receive grants from Learning Aid Ohio?

To qualify for a Learning Aid Ohio grant, students must meet specific requirements, including:

  • Be learning on an Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • Be an Ohio resident
  • Be a member of a family with a household income less than 400% of the Federal Poverty Level

Note: Tutors cannot apply for a grant on behalf of students. Families must apply on their own accord. If you need assistance applying, please contact us.

What happens if I can’t find a tutor?

If you cannot find a tutor in your area who’s a good fit, we encourage you to find someone through your own networks. However, they must be added as an approved Learning Aid Ohio tutor in order for you to pay them using your granted funding.  If you still cannot find a tutor, please contact us.

What if I already have a tutor in mind?

Great! This way of using the program has been highly successful.  Please have them apply to be a Learning Aid Ohio tutor. They will need a current Background Check (BCI) or active ODE License.

Do my granted funds expire?

Funds not spent by the end of each semester expire and cannot be used after the expiration date.

Please note that not accessing your funds may impact your eligibility for a future grant from Learning Aid Ohio. If Learning Aid Ohio does not see a reasonable effort made to use your grant, we have the right to adjust your grant amount. If you are having trouble getting started, please contact us for help.

Can an immediate family member or I be a tutor for my student?

No. We do not allow immediate family members or any family members living in the same household as the student to be paid tutors through this program. Immediate family members include siblings, parents, and grandparents by blood, marriage, and adoption.

Can I apply for grants for multiple students?

Yes. Just remember that each student must be learning on an IEP.

Why am I not receiving emails from Learning Aid Ohio?

We send all of our emails through an email marketing service. Please check your junk/spam folder and add info@learningaidohio.org  to your contact list to ensure you receive all our communications.

How do tutors get paid?

If learners schedule their sessions in ElevateDD Learner, tutors are paid directly by the site administrator. In all other cases, the family must pay for services directly.

Our son improved 14 points on his science MAP test from the beginning of the year to January. He has improved in math and Language Arts as well. He wants to check out books from the library and actually read them now. He never did this before COVID.
